Northeast Missouri Humane Society
A Lifetime of Loving Care · Nurturing Shelter · Community Animal Education
In Puppies for Parole, selected offenders at the Northeast Missouri Correctional Center have the opportunity to become trainers to rescue dogs. Offenders teach dogs basic obedience skills and socialize them, making them more adoptable. By the end of the program, these dogs will also be kennel trained, house trained, and Canine Good Citizen Certified. Once the dogs have successfully completed the program, they are adopted through the Northeast Missouri Humane Society. For more information about this program, please ask the shelter staff.

The Adoption Process
What it takes to become a rescue mom or dad
Here at Northeast Missouri Humane Society, we see the value in everyone. We want to be a catalyst for positive change. We’ve been driven by the same ideas we initially founded our Animal Shelter upon: support, empowerment, and progress.
We care about homing the cats and dogs at our shelter. To begin the process of adoption, an application must be filled out and approved. If an adopter rents their residence they must provide written approval from their landlord. Once approved, payment is required. This is followed by a NEMO Humane Society scheduled vet appointment. Until the date of your soon-to-be new family member's procedure, they must remain at the shelter in our care. On the day of the scheduled procedure, NEMOHS will provide transportation for your fur-baby to the veterinary clinic. You, the adopter, will be asked to then pick up your new pet from the clinic the next day. Which happens to be the best day of your new fur-baby's LIFE!
PLEASE KNOW THAT THE NEMO HUMANE SOCIETY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY ADOPTION.
